Michigan Lawmakers CALL Trump ‘War Criminal’ – Push for Immediate Removal

Michigan lawmakers and religious leaders called for President Trump’s removal from office under the 25th Amendment after he issued an 8 p.m. deadline to Iran on Tuesday, threatening military action. Democratic Representatives Rashida Tlaib and Shri Thanedar led the charge, with Tlaib labeling Trump a war criminal and demanding immediate removal for threatening genocide against 100 million people.

Constitutional Crisis Erupts Over Presidential Authority

The controversy centers on Trump’s Truth Social post declaring Tuesday’s deadline one of the most important moments in world history. The president previously sought an agreement on opening the Strait of Hormuz to shipping traffic. Representative Tlaib accused Trump of bombing a school and massacring young girls before making his latest threat. The 25th Amendment provides a constitutional mechanism for removing a president deemed unfit for office before their term expires.

Representative Shri Thanedar echoed Tlaib’s concerns, stating Trump threatened to slaughter 100 million people and called Vice President Vance, Secretary of State Rubio, and other Republican leaders spineless cowards for not acting. Representative Debbie Dingell demanded Republican congressional leaders return to Washington immediately to end what she characterized as the president’s illegal war and executive overreach. Dingell warned that Trump’s actions put American lives, national security, and the global economy at serious risk.

Faith Community Voices Peace Concerns

The Imams Council of Michigan joined the chorus of opposition on Monday, calling for peace and expressing deep concerns about escalating conflict with Iran. The religious leaders’ intervention adds another dimension to the growing resistance against Trump’s Middle East policy. Their statement emphasized the potential humanitarian consequences of military action in the region and urged diplomatic solutions over armed conflict.

Constitutional Showdown Looms

The 25th Amendment debate represents the most serious constitutional challenge to Trump’s presidency since he took office. Democratic lawmakers argue the president’s threats against Iran demonstrate unfitness for office, while Republicans have remained largely silent on the deadline and its implications. The standoff places renewed focus on congressional war powers and the limits of presidential authority in foreign military operations. Whether Republican leadership will respond to Democratic demands for emergency congressional action remains uncertain as the deadline approaches.
