Dems ABANDON Harris 2028 Run—Party Leaders REFUSE Support…

Vice President Kamala Harris faces mounting opposition from her own party as top Democrats refuse to endorse her potential 2028 presidential campaign, with several lawmakers warning her candidacy could damage the party’s chances of retaking the White House.

Party Leaders Express Deep Concerns

Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren avoided committing to Harris when questioned about 2028, stating she remains focused on the 2026 midterms. Louisiana Representative Troy Carter went further, declaring he cannot support anyone yet because the field remains wide open. Behind closed doors, Democratic concerns have grown sharper. One anonymous House Democrat told reporters they would prefer Harris pursue a gubernatorial position instead, adding that many colleagues share real concerns about her securing the nomination. Another party member questioned whether Harris’s candidacy would benefit the country or the party, despite her obvious name recognition among voters.

The skepticism stems largely from Harris’s 2024 performance, when she lost all seven swing states to Donald Trump. The former president improved his 2020 margins in every state and Washington, DC. Harris became the Democratic nominee after President Joe Biden withdrew just 107 days before the general election. Despite the losses, Harris signaled interest in running again at the National Action Network convention earlier this month, telling attendees she is considering another White House bid.

Some Democrats Still Back Harris

Not all Democrats have turned against Harris. Texas Representative Sylvia Garcia offered strong support, arguing Harris deserves another chance and comparing her favorably to other potential candidates from both parties. Mississippi Representative Bennie Thompson echoed this sentiment while emphasizing that the real question centers on electability rather than eligibility. Michigan Senator Elissa Slotkin suggested a competitive primary would strengthen whoever emerges as the nominee, indicating multiple candidates will likely enter the race. Even some Republicans weighed in mockingly, with Louisiana Senator John Kennedy joking he would start raising money to encourage Harris to run.

Polling Numbers Show Uphill Battle

Harris faces significant obstacles even in her home state of California. A recent UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies survey found Governor Gavin Newsom leading potential Democratic contenders with 28 percent support. Harris received just 9 percent, trailing Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. The polling suggests Harris would enter a crowded primary field without the frontrunner status typically afforded to former vice presidents. Democrats appear divided on whether to rally behind Harris or seek fresh leadership for 2028.
