Report: J6 Committee Delayed Secret Service Driver Refuting False Limo Story

A recent report has revealed that the January 6th Committee withheld crucial testimony from a Secret Service driver who refuted claims made by former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson about an alleged altercation involving former President Donald Trump on January 6, 2021. This development has sparked significant controversy and criticism towards the committee's handling of the investigation.

Cassidy Hutchinson testified in June 2022 that Trump had lunged at the steering wheel and attempted to physically force his security detail to drive him to the Capitol during the riots. She claimed this information was relayed to her by Tony Ornato, a top White House security aide, and was corroborated by Secret Service agent Bobby Engel. However, multiple Secret Service agents, including Engel and the driver, have come forward to dispute Hutchinson's account.

The report highlights that the committee did not reach out to the Secret Service to verify Hutchinson’s explosive testimony before airing it. Secret Service chief of communications Anthony Guglielmi stated that the agency was not contacted in the ten days leading up to Hutchinson's public testimony. This lack of outreach has raised questions about the committee's thoroughness and impartiality.

Further complicating the narrative, the driver and other Secret Service agents have indicated their willingness to testify under oath that no physical altercation occurred in the presidential vehicle, known as "The Beast”. Their testimonies directly contradict Hutchinson’s claims and suggest that the committee may have selectively presented evidence to support a particular narrative.

Additionally, the report uncovered that Hutchinson made significant changes to her original testimony, which were not disclosed by the committee. These revisions, documented in an errata sheet, omitted the more sensational claims about Trump's behavior in the SUV. This revelation has fueled accusations of perjury and deliberate manipulation of the investigative process.

Critics, including Representative Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.), have labeled the delay in releasing the driver's transcript and other contradictory testimonies as a cover-up. Loudermilk asserted that the committee's decision to highlight Hutchinson's thirdhand account while sidelining direct witness statements undermines the credibility of their findings.

The controversy over the handling of this testimony adds to the already contentious atmosphere surrounding the January 6th investigation. With the committee’s work under intense scrutiny, these revelations may further erode public trust in the impartiality and integrity of the inquiry.

The report underscores the necessity for comprehensive and transparent investigations, especially when dealing with matters of significant national interest. As the fallout continues, the debate over the committee's methods and conclusions is likely to persist, impacting future efforts to examine the events of January 6th.
