Judge’s Mental Health Warnings IGNORED Before Fairfax Killed Wife…

A Virginia judge documented severe mental health concerns about former Democratic Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax just weeks before he killed his wife and himself in a shocking murder-suicide, revealing a pattern of psychological decline and escalating isolation that authorities failed to prevent.

Court Documents Reveal Disturbing Pattern

Judge Dontae Bugg issued warnings about Fairfax’s deteriorating mental state during child custody proceedings involving the couple’s two teenage children. Court records detail a 2022 incident where Fairfax purchased a handgun using money intended for his children’s horseback riding lessons, then experienced what the judge described as an “adverse psychological event.” Relatives found him in a nearby public park after frantic searching, and his brother called mental health professionals after being unable to calm him down over several hours.

Documents obtained by Fox 5 DC reveal Fairfax was drinking heavily, locking himself in his home office surrounded by empty wine bottles, trash, and piles of dirty laundry. He would only emerge long enough to get food or smoke cigarettes, according to court filings. Despite these warning signs, Judge Bugg noted there was no evidence Fairfax had sought professional help and did not order psychological therapy.

Deadly Timeline and Missed Interventions

The murder-suicide occurred early Thursday morning, just days before an April 21 divorce hearing and an April 30 court-ordered deadline for Fairfax to move out of the couple’s Annandale home. Authorities confirmed Fairfax had recently been served with paperwork related to the upcoming court proceedings. The judge had previously described the tension in the home as “extremely high for an extended period of time,” warning that their living arrangements were exacerbating an already dangerous situation.

Political Downfall After Assault Allegations

Fairfax served as Virginia’s lieutenant governor from 2018 to 2022. In 2019, two women accused him of sexually assaulting them while they were students at Duke University. Court documents state the allegations “deeply affected” Fairfax and “appear to have put an end” to his plans for a gubernatorial run. At the time, he was considered an ascendant political figure in Virginia Democratic circles. The sexual assault allegations marked the beginning of a rapid decline that ultimately ended in tragedy for his family.
