The world is a crazy place. Virtually every time we read the news, we can learn about something more outrageous than the previous day.
However, this new report from The Daily Caller News Foundation certainly makes the list: for 12 years, American scientists bought hundreds of cats and dogs from Asian meat markets. The scientists then chose to conduct experiments on the bodies of these cats and dogs before tossing what was left to other cats for their consumption.
Everything You Need to Know
The aforementioned experiments with cats and dogs maintained between 2003 and 2015. Of course, the misdeeds inflicted upon these animals are monstrous and receiving righteous condemnation from Congress, the Agricultural Research Service, and groups which champion against animal cruelty.
A former scientist with the United States Department of Agriculture denounced the experiments as “crazy” and stated that he didn’t understand the logic of cannibalism, noting that American taxpayers shouldn’t be footing the bill for such experiments.
Kittens in Traumatic Testing Ends Now (KITTEN) co-sponsor and GOP Rep. Brian Mast delivered the following remarks about the gruesome experiments:
“The details of these kitten experiments keep getting worse and they need to end now. The fact that the USDA has been rounding up pets and other innocent dogs and cats in foreign countries, including at Chinese meat markets condemned by Congress, killing them and feeding them to lab cats back here in the States is simply disgusting and unjustifiable.”
The Agricultural Research Service also provided a public statement of their own regarding this matter:
“We continue to assess our operations on how to better conduct toxoplasmosis research, and we remain committed to the strictest adherence to ethical standards and the best management practices.”
What Else is Happening?
The conducted experiments are absolutely horrific and inexcusable. The fact that this was able to go on for 12 years is absolutely mindblowing. However, if this is making it in the news, what else is happening which has yet to be reported?
