As the field of 2020 Democrat candidates expands, it’s only natural for people to wonder what President Trump’s thoughts are in regards to the prospective contenders.
On Thursday, the president weighed in with some of his opinions regarding the existing candidates during a phone interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity.
Trump on his Prospective Contenders
The president provided his thoughts about Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Beto O’Rourke, Kamala Harris and Pete Buttigieg. First and foremost, Trump blatantly stated that “Sleepy Joe” won’t be able to serve as president or have the necessary energy to bring to the table.
As for Sanders, the president branded him as “misguided” and very chatty, but with no accomplishments. O’Rourke is also “fading very fast,” according to Trump. Finally, the president stated that neither Harris or Buttigieg will make it, although Trump did claim that Harris has a “nasty wit.”
Of all the candidates, President Trump was most critical of Biden, who just announced his candidacy for the White House. Biden went after Trump in his announcement video, and the president didn’t hesitate to weigh in with his own opinions on the former vice president:
“I think we are calling him ‘Sleepy Joe’ ’cause I’ve known him for a while. Is he a pretty sleepy guy. He won’t be able to deal with President Xi, I will tell you. That’s a different level of energy and, frankly, intelligence. So I sort refer to him as ‘Sleepy Joe.’ A lot of people wanted me to change the word ‘sleepy’ to something else that rhymes with it. I thought it was too nasty. He’s not going to be able to do the job.”
Many of the Democrats who hope to take on Trump in 2020 are openly supportive of far-left, radical policies. Some of these policies include the Green New Deal, ending private healthcare and abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Interestingly enough, Democrats have yet to realize that being as radical as possible is not a winning strategy.
