On Wednesday, Bernie Sanders officially ended his campaign for president of the United States. 2020 marks the second time the Vermont socialist has tried to seek the presidency, but to no avail.
Throughout the primary election process, the Democrat establishment hasn’t even attempted to hide their opposition to Sanders. As a matter of fact, the now-former Democrat hopeful received the same treatment from the DNC that he got back in 2016; only time will tell whether or not Sanders agitates his supporters once more by later endorsing Joe Biden for president.
Shortly after the suspension of Sanders’ campaign, Trump weighed in with his own thoughts via Twitter. Part of his thoughts involved extending an invitation for Sanders’ supporters to come join the Republican Party.
Explaining Trump’s Thoughts on Sanders’ 2020 Demise
Taking to his Twitter account, the president pointed out certain factors which engendered Sanders’ downfall. Elizabeth Warren’s refusal to drop out until after Super Tuesday coupled with the DNC’s blatant bias against Sanders were the two points that Trump drew attention towards.

Shortly thereafter, President Trump also suggested that supporters of Bernie Sanders come join the Republican Party; in a brief, yet effective manner, the president indicated that trade is a matter where those who favor Sanders could find common ground with the GOP.
Will Sanders’ Supporters Accept the Invitation?
As of now, it remains to be seen whether or not backers of Bernie Sanders will join the Republican Party. However, it is quite fair to say that Sanders supporters feel as though their favored nominee was cheated out of the primary election, similarly to in 2016.
Due to the Democrat establishment pulling this stunt during a second presidential election in a row, some Sanders backers could join Republicans just to spite the left-wing. Then, of course, there is always the possibility of the socialist’s followers staying home and not voting at all. Many Americans who favored Sanders also adopted the “Bernie or Bust” mantra.
