The fight for the border wall seemingly escalates with each passing day. As of Friday, President Trump has announced that he has the possibility of declaring a national emergency in order to get the wall built, according to Townhall.
This announcement comes after House Democrats have passed legislation to open the government, yet failed to provide the necessary funds for the president’s promised border wall.
The Possibility of Declaring a National Emergency
The president has attempted to work with Democrats on multiple occasions in order to build the border wall. Due to the Democrats’ refusal to provide funding, President Trump is understandably considering other measures. Yesterday, when asked about the possibility of declaring a national emergency, Trump provided the following feedback:
“We can do it. I haven’t done it. I may do it. I may do it.”
U.S. journalist Manu Raju also tweeted about the president’s commentary about a potential national emergency declaration.
"I can do it if I want," Trump now saying he is "allowed" to build the wall himself without congressional approval or appropriation. "We can call a national emergency and build it very quickly."

President Trump has also mulled over the possibility of having the military build his border wall.
Responses to a Possible National Emergency Declaration
Many of the president’s critics seem floored at the possibility of a national emergency declaration; but, honestly, they shouldn’t be. The government has been shut down for 15 days because Congressional Democrats have refused to work with the president on border security. Since Democrats have assumed their majority in the House of Representatives, they have already begun making moves to implement various big government programs and maintained their rejection of President Trump’s border wall.
The wall is non-negotiable and it has to be built. Ignoring the president and repeatedly passing legislation which does not fund the wall are not winning strategies.
