Earlier this week, former Vice President Joe Biden became the presumptive nominee of the Democrat Party after Bernie Sanders dropped out. This now leaves political analysts observing the possibility of a Trump vs. Biden matchup, namely the numbers behind both candidates.
Trump and Biden have sparred with one another multiple times; the conflict between both politicians predates the 2020 presidential election. However, with the election underway, many Americans have their thoughts — and doubts — about Biden’s ability to hold his own against Trump.
The former vice president continues to grapple with a troubling sexual assault allegation from former staffer Tara Reade. Furthermore, Biden’s countless gaffes and tendency to misspeak haven’t inspired confidence amongst voters.
Now, a fresh Fox News survey shows that, in a hypothetical general election matchup, Trump and Biden are tied at 42% each.
Reviewing Fox News’ Latest Poll
Biden’s hypothetical, general election lead over Trump has gradually declined since October 2019. As previously stated, the former vice president’s gaffes and the new sexual assault allegation against him haven’t done any favors.
Meanwhile, President Trump has been front and center, once more demonstrating his leadership skills with the management of COVID-19. While Biden has lost the confidence of voters in polls since October 2019, the president has, overall, gained support from voters. Now, both he and Biden are at 42% in the latest Fox News poll.

Network data furthermore shows that Biden’s support from women, people of color, and even Democrats has taken hits. Coronavirus is also believed to have strengthened Republicans and weakened Democrats. This would explain Biden’s progressive decline happening at the same time as Trump’s gradual ascension.
The General Election
As the general election continues, numbers and data will certainly ebb and flow. Many Americans maintain the belief that Trump will ultimately emerge as the winner with a second term in office.
This belief is held by not just many Republicans, but also a fair amount of Democrats. Numerous folks on the left have voiced concerns that Biden lacks the stamina to hold his own against President Trump.
