Earlier this morning, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders spoke about the recent arrest of President Trump’s longtime adviser, Roger Stone, according to Townhall.
A Closer Look at Sanders’ Commentary
During an interview, the press secretary stated that “the courts [should] make the decision” on whether or not Stone is guilty of the charges against him. At this time, Stone is facing five counts of providing false statements, one count of obstruction of justice, and one count of witness tampering. While none of the charges being brought against Stone allege that he colluded with the Russian government to influence the 2016 election, the charges are tied to special counsel Mueller’s ongoing Russia probe.
Hours after his arrest, Stone spoke to the press. The longtime adviser to Trump stated that charges against him are untrue and politically motivated. Stone moreover noted that he will not be manipulated into testifying against the current president.
Nevertheless, Press Secretary Sarah Sanders had a question about whether or not truly guilty parties will also face arrests:
“When will the FBI surround the homes of and arrest Hillary Clinton, James Comey, and James Clapper? People we know have also made false statements — will the same standard apply?”
The Double Standard
For quite some time, many Americans have noticed the double standard which exists in politics. Many Democrats are able to act and behave in manners which would be condemned if Republicans followed suit. Yet, the left doesn’t seem to have an issue with this double standard because they believe it benefits them.
Nevertheless, more and more people in this country are calling out double standards, whether they pertain to legal matters, political commentary, or the manner in which people with different political views are treated by liberals versus conservatives.
