With the 2020 presidential election being right around the corner, the various proposed policies of candidates are being further scrutinized.
In the case of Democrat candidate and self-professed Democratic-socialist Bernie Sanders, this is very bad news; it turns out that his policies would cost each American taxpayer at least $20,000, according to Fox News.
Reviewing the Latest Details
Earlier this morning, Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget President Maya MacGuineas appeared on Fox & Friends for an interview. During the interview, MacGuineas warned of just how much Sanders’ policies will cost Americans. (It’s also worth noting that the Committee for a Response Federal Budget is independent of left-wing or right-wing partisanship/bias.)
MacGuineas’ warnings about the policies which Sanders is proposing reads as follows:
“If you look at healthcare, free tuition, family leave, child care – those proposals will all have a price tag of over $20,000 per taxpayer. I don’t know whether they plan to finance all of that or add that to the very large national debt, but the costs are certainly high. I know trillion is kind of hard to get your arms around. But when you bring it down per taxpayer, we are talking more than $20,000 increase in taxes.”
She furthermore noted that the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget has some concerns about whether or not Sanders’ programs will truly come with the benefits which are advertised.
According to research from the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, the proposals which Sanders is talking about implementing are not even 50% paid for.
Go figure.
The Problem with Socialism
The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money. This has and always will be the case, regardless of how much Democrats try to win over Americans with free stuff. In reality, everything has a price and there are no free lunches.
Even Sanders himself is vaguely aware of this; during his town hall last night, the Democratic-socialist admitted that the taxes of Americans would increase in order to fund Medicare-For-All, but this is only the tip of the iceberg. If taxpayers have to pay extra money for Sanders’ “free” healthcare, imagine how much more taxes will surge with the rest of Sanders’ proposals!
