Portland is once again in chaos as violent anti-ICE protests spiral out of control, putting law enforcement and residents at risk. Federal officials are sounding the alarm as tensions explode over immigration enforcement.
From Protest to Riot: Violence Erupts Outside ICE Office
What began as another protest quickly turned volatile when over 250 activists stormed the ICE field office in Portland, Oregon. The crowd launched fireworks, lasers, and physical assaults at federal agents in a scene that resembled a war zone more than a protest.
One agitator wielded a Roman Candle aimed directly at law enforcement, then pulled a large knife and hurled it toward the officers. Another suspect, Eduardo Diaz, was taken into custody wearing tactical gear while using a high-powered laser to blind federal agents. Mariana Rivera-Loza was also arrested carrying a homemade riot shield while trespassing on federal property.
ICE Under Attack: Federal Officers Face 500% Spike in Assaults
The Department of Homeland Security reports that assaults on ICE agents have surged by more than 500% in recent months, a staggering increase linked directly to rising tensions over border enforcement.

“Our officers are facing a 413 percent increase in assaults… and we will not be deterred,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.
“Lay a hand on an officer, and you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
Agents were forced to deploy flashbang devices to hold the line and disperse the mob. Over 20 arrests have been made so far, many involving suspects armed with dangerous weapons and protective gear.
A Broader War on Enforcement
This chaos is more than a local incident—it’s a symptom of a national crisis. While some label these demonstrations as calls for immigration reform, the level of violence and targeted attacks on officers suggest a dangerous new phase of lawlessness. Officials point to smoke grenades, rocks, and blinding lasers as common weapons used during recent clashes.

Secretary Kristi Noem has become a vocal defender of ICE, reinforcing the administration’s resolve to enforce the law without compromise:
“You will not stop us or slow us down,” said Noem in a message to rioters.
“If you attack our officers, you will face justice.”
