2020 Democrat Beto O’Rourke has joined the ranks of many members of his party who wans to infringe upon Second Amendment rights. Americans have witnessed this time and time again, as progressives call for senselessly more austere gun control which will only impact law-abiding citizens. As a presidential candidate, O’Rourke has proudly declared that he’s going to take the guns of lawful Americans via mandatory buyback programs.
On Thursday, O’Rourke was hit with a reality check during a town hall in Aurora, Colorado. Gun owner Lauren Boebert confronted the 2020 Democrat and explained to him that mandatory buybacks will not impact criminals who don’t follow laws, as documented by Fox News. Boebert then asked O’Rourke how he intends to legislate the hearts and minds of individuals who are intent upon carrying out harm.
A Closer Look at Boebert’s Statements to O’Rourke
As Boebert spoke to O’Rourke, explaining her need for gun ownership, the flaws of buyback programs, and the importance of the Second Amendment, various supporters of the 2020 Democrat tried to talk over her. On multiple occasions, O’Rourke was forced to tell his supporters to let Boebert speak and hear her out.
An excerpt of Boebert’s precise remarks to O’Rourke during Thursday’s town hall reads as follows:
“I am here to say: Hell, no, you’re not. I have four children, I am 5-foot-0, 100 pounds, I cannot really defend myself with a fist. […] I want to know how you’re going to legislate that because a criminal breaks the law, so all you’re going to do is restrict law-abiding citizens, like myself.”

O’Rourke eventually responded to Boebert by claiming that Americans shouldn’t be allowed to purchase “weapons that were designed for war.”
Support for the Second Amendment
Americans who support Second Amendment rights should continue to stand up to politicians like Beto O’Rourke. Taking away the property of lawful gun owners will never stop criminals who have no regard for the law. Furthermore, individuals should never be punished for crimes which they did not commit; mandatory buyback programs are inherently penalizing the wrong people and failing to stop future mass shootings.
Until the Democrat Party is willing to work across the aisle in order to find real solutions, they will continue to experience the pushback which O’Rourke faced on Thursday. The right to keep and bear arms shall NOT be infringed!
