Newly elected House Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has made the news once again for her outlandish and unbelievable statements. The Daily Caller News Foundation recently reported that Ocasio-Cortez delivered some interesting rhetoric about politicians and whether or not they should collect their salaries during government shutdowns.
A Closer Look at Ocasio-Cortez’s Statements
Towards the end of last month, Ocasio-Cortez posted on Twitter that Congressional salaries ought to be “furloughed” during government shutdowns.
See her tweet for yourself down below:
Next time we have a gov shutdown, Congressional salaries should be furloughed as well.
It’s completely unacceptable that members of Congress can force a government shutdown on partisan lines & then have Congressional salaries exempt from that decision.
Have some integrity. https://t.co/BgueNNjf0f

In light of Ocasio-Cortez’s new position as a congresswoman, it is unclear whether or not she still maintains her opinions on congressional salaries. When asked by a reporter, Ocasio-Cortez gave a short, yet cryptic response:
“I’ve gotta run!”
More on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is widely known for her far-left, socialist politics and habitual gaffes. Apparently, her new status as a congresswoman has not changed this.
If Ocasio-Cortez is truly as outraged about government shutdowns as she appeared to be in her tweet, then she should have no issue with forgoing her own salary. Of course, it’s very unlikely that she will do this. Her refusal to answer the reporter’s question speaks volumes.
The government shutdown is now approaching its 15th day as Democrats continue to work against the enforcement of border security.
