Former President Barack Obama has been granted an Emmy for his narrating of a Netflix documentary series about national parks.
This made him the second US president in history to be handed the TV award since Dwight Eisenhower got an honorary prize back in the 1950s.
Narration Award Amid Ongoing Controversies
Obama won an Emmy for best narrator, due to his his narrating of “Our Great National Parks,” a mini-series documents of five parts. The first episode got released by Netflix on April 13.
The documentary was produced for the streaming giant by Higher Ground Productions, the production company of Barack and Michelle Obama.
Obama’s win of an Emmy award comes amid growing controversies surrounding his lavish lifestyle. The Obamas have been flaunting their fortunes and standing against the backdrop of a rapidly exacerbating economic crisis on the watch of Barack Obama’s ex-veep, Joe Biden.
That’s not even mentioning the highly problematic aspects of Obama’s political legacy that have played out to horrifying consequences, now that Sleepy Joe is in charge of the federal government.
The Obamas’ fortune was estimated at about $135 million back in 2020 and has likely grown since.

Obama’s Prize List Grows Longer
As he was granted the Emmy award for narration on Saturday night, Obama beat other nominees in his category, such as Sir David Attenborough, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Lupita Nyong’o.
With his win of an Emmy award, the ex-president is halfway from reaching an EGOT – i.e. winning an Emmy, plus a Grammy award, an Oscar, as well as Tony award.
Obama has already been given Grammy Awards for the reading of the audiobooks of his memoir books “A Promised Land,” and “The Audacity of Hope.” Back in 2020, his wife, Michelle Obama, also won a Grammy for her own audiobook reading.
Besides his Emmy and Grammy prizes, Barack Obama has also won a Nobel Peace Prize, making him one of the four US presidents to have done so – after Teddy Roosevelt in 1905, Woodrow Wilson in 1919, and Jimmy Carter in 2002.
Obama won a Nobel Peace Prize in 2009 for “strengthening international diplomacy,” international cooperation, and for pushing for nuclear disarmament.
However, the arrival of his award (just months after the start of what became his first presidential term) is really considered to be due to him being the first black man to become president of the United States.
This is often criticized as an early expression of “wokeness” or a decision that was based more on his race than on any merit of his policies so early on.
Obama’s Emmy award comes against the backdrop of speculations that his wife and the former first lady may bid for the 2024 presidential nomination of the Democrat Party. Michelle Obama has not confirmed this, however.
Obama won an Emmy but what he really should have won is a trip to the Hague for war crimes.
