Newsom Touts COVID-19 as Path for Socialism in America

Coronavirus and the responses to it are prompting real conversations in America that extend beyond social distancing.
Conservative Americans and others have warned about the danger of handing over too much power to government, even in the wake of COVID-19. Already, we’re witnessing millions of people be forced out of jobs, thanks to government mandates banning access to jobs that pay the bills.

As this entire situation plays out, some Democrats aren’t even hiding their interest in a socialist agenda any longer, as documented by Fox News. On Wednesday, California Governor Gavin Newsom described coronavirus as an “opportunity” to “reshape” America in a direction that’s further away from capitalism.

Newsom on Bringing Socialism to America

The California governor’s thoughts on molding America were shared during his participation in a press conference. Newsom opined that COVID-19 has paved the way for a  “progressive era” in the nation. Furthermore, he encouraged a “reshape” of how the United States conducts business.

Interestingly enough, Newsom attempted to pretend as if calls for a progressive new era aren’t partisan. He claimed that his rhetoric shouldn’t alarm either major political party, but should instead help both sides “think more systemically.” Of course, any honest individual paying attention knows that this is Newsom’s veiled endorsement of using coronavirus to bring about far-left, big government, socialist proposals.

The Politics of COVID-19 Responses

Coronavirus itself is not political; however, many of the reactions to it do contain political undertones as seen above. It’s no coincidence that the very first states to force millions of people out of work were blue states with Democrat governors.

Furthermore, Newsom’s statements on Wednesday speak to yet another example of Democrats weaponizing a crisis to score petty partisan wins. Instead of concentrating on how to bring socialism to America, Newsom ought to direct his energies on reopening California so that the state’s residents can get back to work and life.
