Mike Pence to Congress: “End the Crisis on our Border.”

In a Fox News op-ed, Vice President Mike Pence warned about the crisis which is happening at the United States Southern border. The vice president furthermore called upon Congress to end the crisis accordingly.

Reviewing the Vice President’s Statements

Pence started off his op-ed by noting the magnitude of what is happening at the Southern border. Approximately 3,000 illegal immigrants try to enter the United States each day. Border Patrol agents have furthermore stated that, contrary to what the Democrats claim, there actually is a crisis at the Southern border. Each day, Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents are having a strain put on their resources when they have to apprehend and deal with illegal immigrants.

The vice president also specifically addressed the danger which illegal immigrants face on their journies to unlawfully enter America.

In Pence’s own words:

“For the first time ever, a majority of these immigrants are families and unaccompanied minors. And their numbers are only growing, as we’ve seen a 370 percent increase in the number of family units apprehended at the border this fiscal year to date. These vulnerable people face incredible danger from the criminal smugglers who ferry them to our southern border. Nearly 70 percent of illegal immigrants report being victims of violence, and Doctors Without Borders reports that nearly one-third of women are sexually assaulted.”

Illegal immigration is not only dangerous for America and dangerous for illegal immigrants themselves, but it’s also a threat to national security. The surges in illegal immigration have caused Border Patrol agents to have to care for these people, thus leaving many holes in security. Drug cartels, human traffickers and other serious criminals often take advantage of these holes, something which has been well-documented.

All in all, illegal immigration is a nightmare. The sooner it’s dealt with, the better. This is where Congress must step in.
