The moment of truth has arrived.
Former Trump attorney and fixer Michael Cohen will be heading to New York’s Federal Correctional Institution today in order to commence serving his three-year prison sentence, as documented by Fox News.
Everything You Need to Know
Cohen is expected to report to the aforementioned prison facility by no later than 2:00 PM today. His time in prison comes after multiple attempts to evade serving his sentence or, at the very least, get it delayed. Over the past year, Cohen has faced a series of legal issues from federal authorities, including tax fraud, bank fraud, and campaign finance violations.
Throughout Cohen’s legal issues, Americans speculated about whether or not the former fixer would remain loyal to the president. After all, Cohen is infamously stated as saying that he would “take a bullet” for Trump. Apparently, that changed with Cohen’s legal troubles, as he completely implicated President Trump in a series of business, personal, and ethical wrongdoings. During testimony before Congress earlier this year, Cohen maintained that he was seduced to the dark side by President Trump.
As this day got closer and closer, Cohen and his attorney attempted to get Democrats to intercede on his behalf and delay or lessen his prison sentence. Needless to say, these endeavors proved to be fruitless.
Response from President Trump
As Cohen increased his personal and political attacks on President Trump, the latter was forced to respond. Trump stated that he never ordered Cohen to break the law; the president furthermore maintained that Cohen’s 180 turn was motivated by the desire to reduce his legal trouble and hopefully cut a deal with prosecutors or Democrats
The president’s former attorney and fixer is expected to hold one last press conference before turning himself over to the Federal Correctional Institution.
