At this point in American politics, it’s a pretty well established fact that Democrats want to take your guns. The left-wing continues to politicize mass shootings as opportunities to rally and push for unlawful infringement upon the Second Amendment. As of now, multiple 2020 Democrats have come out and affirmed their support for mandatory buyback programs; examples of these candidates include Beto O’Rourke, Cory Booker, and now Kamala Harris.
Yesterday, Harris declared her support for mandatory buyback programs during a segment on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. When asked about her stance on the matter, Harris went on to cite the typical talking points which Democrats use to justify their attacks on gun rights in this country, as reported by Fox News.
Why Harris Wants to Take Your Guns
Towards the end of Harris’ interview on Fallon’s show, the audience was permitted to ask various questions. At one point, one of the audience members asked Harris whether or not she supports a mandatory buyback program and then followed up by requesting for the 2020 candidate to explain why she thinks mandatory buybacks don’t “go against fundamentally the Second Amendment?”
Of course, Harris declined to articulate the ways in which mandatory buybacks don’t infringe upon the Second Amendment because, well, they do. However, she wasted no time in attempting to justify her support for programs of this nature.
Harris statements on the matter read as follows:
“Great question. I do believe that we need to do buybacks and I’ll tell you why. First of all, let’s be clear about what assault weapons are. They have been designed to kill a lot of human beings quickly. They are weapons of war with no place on the streets of a civil society. I’ve seen assault weapons kill babies and police officers.”
Harris then went on to profess that the government should enforce mandatory buyback programs the “right” way and “give people their value, the financial value of what they have and not just take things from people that have value without compensating them.”
The Truth About Mandatory Buyback Programs
Mandatory buyback programs are flagrantly unconstitutional and deeply ineffective. If the goal is to stop criminals from using guns to kill people, stripping lawful citizens of “assault weapons” is a terrible strategy. Disarming law-abiding Americans does not impact criminals who will not care about or abide by any mandatory buyback programs. Still, Democrats continue to push for these programs which infringe upon the rights and liberties of Americans and then they wonder why they get called radical.
The one silver lining in all this is that the Democrat Party is finally being honest and transparent about where they stand. No more of “we don’t want to take your guns.” Democrats are letting the nation know who they are, what they’re about, and the type of plans they have for the United States.
When President Trump wins a second term in office, the Democrat Party shouldn’t be shocked, but they undoubtedly will be.
