House Democrats Pressure Their Senate Counterparts to Scrap the Filibuster

House Democrats currently have a litany of bills they’re itching to pass into law. D.C. statehood, H.R. 1, etc., are only the starting point for the left.

The problem, however, is that while Democrats can easily pass legislation through the House of Representatives, the Senate is a different ballgame.

So long as the filibuster remains in place, Democrats will not be able to pass far-left bills on party vote alone. Therefore, rather than compromise and meeting Republicans in the middle, Democrats simply want to axe the filibuster altogether.

A new report from Washington Examiner shows that House Democrats are putting pressure on Senate Democrats to eliminate the filibuster.

A Filibuster in Peril?

Almost 100 Democrats in the House of Representatives added their names to a letter urging Senate Democrats to end the filibuster.

During a press conference, Democrat Rep. Cori Bush declared that Senate Democrats need to do away with the so-called “Jim Crow filibuster.”; it’s important to note that Democrats didn’t have this view of the filibuster when they employed its use to stop Republicans from advancing legislation. Now that the Senate filibuster no longer works to the benefit of Democrats, they aim to do away with it.

Thus far, Democrat Sens. Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin have firmly come out against the elimination of the Senate filibuster; however, there are reports that other Democrats in the Senate have reservations against ending the measure. Therefore, as things currently stand, the votes to end the Senate filibuster are simply not there.

Backlash Against Democrats’ Anti-Filibuster Stance

As Democrats have turned against the filibuster, Republicans are calling them out on the hypocrisy. The GOP is able to recognize the Democrats’ newfound opposition against the Senate filibuster for the power grab that it is.

When Democrats aren’t winning, they seek to change the rules of the game. In fact, Democrats are so desperate for power, so desperate to pass H.R. 51, H.R. 1, etc., without compromise that they’re threatening to turn on members of their own party who have reservations about ending the filibuster.

The Democrats’ desperation to scrap the filibuster so they have more power is all the more reasons to keep the filibuster in place. It is the last form of checks-and-balances in Congress until Republicans win back more seats.
