Face masks mandates have surged across the nation along with reports of new COVID-19 cases.
Left-wing leaders, and a few right-wing ones, have implemented orders for citizens to cover their faces while in public. People who refuse to abide by these “mandates” are subject to facing citations, fines, or even time in jail.
As mask mandates appear in various places across America, those in favor are pushing hard for it to happen across the nation. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has called upon President Trump to sign an executive order mandating everyone in America to wear face masks; meanwhile, governors and mayors that have not issued face mask mandates are facing pressure to do so.
The president has given no indication that he plans to force Americans to wear masks; some other leaders are also following suit. According to Breitbart News, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis maintains that he will not issue a statewide directive for residents to wear face masks in public.
Governor DeSantis on Face Masks
Earlier this week, the Republican governor pushed back against those who want him to issue a statewide mandate for face coverings. DeSantis stated that a “collaborating effort” with local leaders has always been a priority for Florida.

The Florida governor also noted that not all areas in the state are experiencing the same levels of coronavirus. This comes as certain local leaders in Florida implement orders for city residents to cover their faces in public. DeSantis then explained that “discrepancies” exist in Florida due to varying circumstances as they pertain to COVID-19.
Commitment to Reopening
Many of the same individuals calling for face mask mandates are also urging for a return to shutdowns. Governor DeSantis has also made clear that Florida will not be reversing its reopening plan, much to the chagrin of his detractors.

The Florida governor’s decision to take a stand against shutdowns and mask mandates has earned him praise from many conservative Americans. Republican voters across the nation largely have concerns about government intrusion upon individual lives and liberties.
This concern has mounted even as some Republican governors have decided to implement face mask mandates for residents.
