In the spirit of halting coronavirus, President Trump has decided to temporarily suspend all immigration to the United States. This measure comes as officials urge the need to “stop the spread” of COVID-19. Immediately after the president announced his decision, Democrats promptly went after him with accusations of racism and xenophobia.
Yesterday, failed 2020 Democrat candidate Beto O’Rourke furthered this untrue narrative during an interview with MSNBC. According to Breitbart News, O’Rourke alleged that the president’s temporary immigration ban is designed to stop non-white immigrants from entering the United States.
What O’Rourke didn’t discuss, however, is the historical pattern of halting immigration during certain crises.
O’Rourke on Trump and Immigration
According to the unsuccessful presidential candidate, “far-right white nationalist terrorists” are getting word of Trump’s immigration policies.
O’Rourke then claimed that the temporary shutdown of immigration to America is a segment of a “more encompassing effort” to stop non-white people from entering the United States. Believe it or not, this is a common, left-wing talking point that Democrats have been putting out there ever since Trump vocalized the importance of legal immigration.

Despite the ongoing coronavirus situation, O’Rourke maintained that America should proceed with permitting any and all immigration. Furthermore, the failed 2020 Democrat professed that everyone in the world is “connected” to one another.
Rehearsed Talking Points
At every turn, the left has accused Trump of racism, xenophobia, sexism, or some other form of bigotry. Contrary to what Democrats would like to believe, not everything they disagree with is wrong or evil.
The fact of the matter is this: President Trump’s temporary suspension of immigration is about stopping the spread of COVID-19. This is also why he issued restrictions against China, another measure that Democrats have convienently criticized.
