Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is one of the hottest names in US politics these days. The governor has been increasingly boosting his national profile amid widespread anticipation that he’s going to make a run for president in 2024.
Just earlier this week, DeSantis traveled to New York in order to speak before a law enforcement union. He’s also got other travel plans in the works, along with an upcoming book later this year.
Former President Trump, amid certain polls that show him losing to DeSantis, has been ramping up his attacks against the Florida governor. Though DeSantis continues to reiterate that his focus remains on delivering and getting things done as an elected officeholder.
Now, according to CNN, decisions being made by DeSantis are leading to new conversations within conservative circles.
Conservatives Weigh in on DeSantis and Culture Wars
Some conservatives are beginning to raise questions about whether or not the Florida governor went a bridge too far in certain culture wars.
For instance, DeSantis’ battle with Disney in Florida led to concerns about the role the state government is playing not just in how Disney operates, but also in what teachers are permitted to educate their students about.

Gov. Chris Sununu of New Hampshire (who, like DeSantis, is viewed as a possible 2024 contender) stated it “isn’t very conservative” for the government to put the squeeze on various businesses that disagree with DeSantis’ politics.
The right-wing Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression is also suing Florida’s education-centered Stop WOKE Act.
The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression furthermore raised objections about how Florida is dealing with education within the state’s colleges and universities.
An Inevitable Turn of Events?
With DeSantis being increasingly viewed as a future presidential candidate, he can expect scrutiny into him to increase. It’s also another reason why Trump has escalated his attacks against the Florida governor in recent weeks.
Ultimately, time will tell how DeSantis’ approaches to Disney, education in the state, and other critical issues go over. So far, the Florida governor’s handling of policy issues led to him winning his 2022 reelection run by many times over than he won his first race.

If DeSantis announces his run for president later this year as expected, then pundits will truly be able to gauge what the public thinks about him. For now, everyone will have to wait and see if DeSantis’ policies continue to serve him well among the electorate.
