Many Americans know of Roger Stone as the political operative eventually pardoned by former President Donald Trump.
The 45th president’s pardon of Stone came after the latter faced convictions for supposedly lying to Congress and engaging in witness tampering during the infamously partisan Russia probe. Days before Stone was set to begin a 40-month prison sentence, Trump spared the GOP operative by pardoning him.
Many leftists and Trump enemies were incensed about Trump pardoning Stone. Now, under President Biden, the U.S. Justice Department is suing Stone. The lawsuit alleges that Stone owes the federal government millions in back taxes, as Breitbart News.
A Closer Look at the Justice Department’s Lawsuit Against Roger Stone
On Friday, the Department of Justice brought a federal lawsuit against Stone and his wife, Nydia, in a Fort Lauderdale, Florida court. The Justice Department maintains that the couple collectively owes the federal government millions in income taxes. The years in the lawsuit involve 2007 – 2011 and also 2018.

Drake Ventures LLC, a business owned by the Stones, is also under scrutiny in this lawsuit. According to the Justice Department, Stone and his wife used Drake Ventures to shield their income from taxation. However, reports have shown that the Stones did pay at least some taxes via Drake Ventures.
Pushback Against the Lawsuit
Since the Justice Department filed suit against Stone, the political operative has pushed back.
Stone maintains that the lawsuit is nothing more than Democrats using the Department of Justice as a tool to target him for political reasons; this is an interesting point, especially since the lawsuit against Stone arrives shortly after a new administration comes into power.

Ultimately, Stone is confident that he will prevail against the Justice Department’s lawsuit. The Republican operative stated that by Democrats weaponizing the Department of Justice in this manner, they’re actually in violation of the law.
Additional statements from Stone include his promise to fight what he described as “politically motivated” charges against him. Finally, the Republican operative stated that when all this is over, he will come out unscathed.
