Cognitive Crisis? House Oversight Zeroes In on Biden’s Executive Legitimacy

A sweeping probe launched by Rep. James Comer is zeroing in on possible deception inside the Biden White House, fueling new concerns over who’s really in charge. At the center of the storm: President Joe Biden’s mental fitness and the hidden hands behind his executive orders.

Bernal Subpoenaed in Explosive Probe

The House Oversight Committee has issued a subpoena to Anthony Bernal, longtime adviser to First Lady Jill Biden, after he refused a voluntary interview. His testimony is scheduled for July 16, as part of a broader investigation into whether President Biden’s mental state compromised the legitimacy of executive decisions—especially in the aftermath of the now-infamous June 27, 2024 debate, which led to Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 race.

“Your testimony is critical,” warned Chairman James Comer, who is also pursuing depositions from other senior Biden aides.

The White House Counsel’s Office has waived executive privilege, effectively clearing the way for full disclosure. But critics allege Bernal and others are stonewalling, fearing exposure of who really called the shots in Biden’s final year of leadership.

Who Was Really in Charge?

At the heart of the probe lies a chilling question: Was Joe Biden capable of governing?

Investigators are closely examining reports that an autopen—a device that automatically signs documents—was used to approve executive actions, raising concerns over who authorized their release. Former domestic policy adviser Neera Tanden admitted the autopen was in use, but failed to clarify who gave the green light.

In addition to Bernal, subpoenas have gone out to Dr. Kevin O’Connor (Biden’s physician), Annie Tomasini, and Ashley Williams—all seen as gatekeepers who may have shielded the President during critical moments.

Unmasking a Possible Cover-Up

Comer has not minced words, accusing Biden insiders of orchestrating a cover-up to conceal cognitive decline from the American people. The committee aims to reveal whether the President’s signature policy decisions were rubber-stamped by unelected staffers operating behind closed doors.

“Now that the White House has waived executive privilege, it’s abundantly clear that Anthony Bernal never intended to be transparent about Joe Biden’s cognitive decline and the ensuing cover-up.” — Rep. Comer

With election-year tensions rising, the legitimacy of Biden’s executive authority hangs in the balance. The Oversight Committee’s findings could reshape public trust—and may trigger legal and constitutional challenges if wrongdoing is confirmed.
