Democrats in California have taken it upon themselves to fully fund healthcare for a considerable amount of illegal immigrants who are living in the state.
California is quite known for its liberal policies and furthermore, the legislation for the funding of healthcare is scheduled to go into effect by January 2020, according to Fox News.
A Closer Look at California’s Decision
Illegal immigrants will be eligible for free healthcare in California so long as they are between 19 and 25 years old and of lower income status. As it stands, tens of thousands of illegal immigrants within California fit into these criteria.
Governor Gavin Newsom and California legislative Democrats put together the plan for all this, a plan which will cost the state nearly $100 million dollars per year. Of course, this means that Californians, namely those without health insurance, can expect to see their taxes go up considerably. Nothing comes for free and someone always foots the bill at the end of the day.
Heath Access executive director Anthony Wright provided additional insight regarding California’s latest bright idea:
“While it’s not all we sought, it will provide a real tangible difference for people, especially for those around and below poverty and for middle-income families who don’t get any help under the federal law.”

The Flaws within the Plan
At this point, it is painfully obvious that California is content with its decision and has no plans of changing anytime soon. However, it does beg to question: why are illegal immigrants being prioritized over the countless Americans who are struggling to make it in the state of California? There are many homeless veterans. There are also many homeless civilian Americans.
If California can find a way to provide aid to tens of thousands of illegal immigrants, then surely they can direct the same energy towards veterans and civilians who are living on the streets, right? Of course, they can, but California has simply chosen not to do so.
