Last week, unemployment claims reached the shocking number of 965,000. This is a huge leap from last month’s jobless claims and only indicates that economic calamity remains ongoing for many Americans.
The financial troubles that so many people in this nation are struggling with have engendered talks about stimulus checks. From amounts ranging from $600 to $2,000, most Americans have their opinions on stimulus payments and what amounts they deem as most appropriate.

Joe Biden, who is set to become the 46th president in five days now, has released an initiative involving $1,4000 stimulus payments, per Breitbart News.

$1,400 Stimulus Checks for Americans

The proposed $1,400 stimulus payments for Americans are included in a greater spending package worth $1.5 trillion dollars.
Biden’s package, of course, involves massive spending, an issue that fiscal conservatives and some Republicans are warning against. Many on the right have consistently supported reopening the economy; furthermore, with Biden preparing to take office, Democrats like the Chicago mayor and New York governor are now all on board with getting the economy open again.

The Biden presidency is expected to come with new regulations and higher taxes upon businesses. This will significantly interfere with the process of rehiring workers; moreover, businesses saddled with high taxes will also have less room to increase the wages of their employees.
All of this comes at an inopportune time, amid months-long lockdowns and countless out-of-working, struggling Americans.

A Broken Promise

Many Democrats are not pleased with Biden’s proposed $1,400 checks. This is due to Biden vowing $2,000 stimulus checks to Americans.
As things current stand, the soon-to-be-president is facing accusations of playing games. Critics of $1,400 stimulus checks argue that Biden intentionally conned supporters with the ill notion that $2,000 payments would come on top of the $600 stimulus checks; at this point, however, it appears that adding the $1,400 to the original $600 payments was the Democrats’ plan all along.

In five days, Biden will take office. The policies passed under his administration will greatly impact the nation, especially Americans struggling due to this virus. In spite of this, Biden is already touting his “American Rescue Plan” as one that shall engender the betterment of the nation and its people.
