Since Joe Biden’s entry into the 2020 presidential election, he’s caused quite a stir. First, Biden faced accusations of inappropriate physical contact with women. Shortly thereafter, Biden took heat from various progressive groups who ultimately branded him as a lukewarm centrist who lacks the spine to defeat President Trump in 2020. The former vice president took a notable hit to his campaign weeks ago after publicly sparring with Kamala Harris during the first Democrat primary debate.
Now, Biden is back in the news for some admissions he made regarding his time as former President Obama’s right hand man. Per Biden’s own admission, “a lot” of Americans were “left behind” during the tenure of the 44th president, as documented by Breitbart News.
Obviously, the former vice president attempted to soften the blow of this admission by explaining some things away, but facts are facts. What’s interesting in all this is that Obama has yet to come out and endorse Biden’s candidacy or even defend Biden against the onslaught of heat which he is taking from progressives.
Reviewing Biden’s Statements Regarding the Obama Years
Biden recently sat down for a profile interview with the New York Times. During this interview, the Democrat frontrunner mentioned that the Obama administration overlooked the various plights of people across the nation. Furthermore, Biden stated that Obama had so many responsibilities as president that he could “barely breathe.”
In the former vice president’s own words:
“A lot of people were left behind. In areas where people were hard hit, I don’t think we paid enough attention to their plight. Everything landed on the president’s desk but locusts.”
More of the Same
It’s interesting that Biden is offering a continuation of the Obama years whilst simultaneously admitting that the Obama presidency left many Americans behind. The Affordable Care Act, something which Biden is supportive of and wishes to bring back, was one of the most horrific policies which led to so many people in this country being discarded and pushed aside.
During the tyranny of the ACA, people were forced to pay for healthcare which oftentimes didn’t even meet their own needs or budgets. Under Obama’s presidency, many Americans simply chose to pay the penalty fee instead of purchasing unwanted health insurance.
The logic here is very simple: Biden cannot claim to be a worthy presidential candidate whilst offering a continuation of policies which ignored the plights of working Americans. There is no getting around this. Thus far, the former vice president has managed to remain as the frontrunner of the current field of 2020 Democrats, but a long road lies ahead of him. Already, Biden has done quite a lot to show Americans what type of candidate he truly is.
