The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) plays a very critical role in the protection of the United States. Duties of this organization include providing aid in the event of natural disasters/health outbreaks, enforcing immigration laws, protecting America from terrorist threats, and securing the nation’s borders. It goes without saying that the very fabric of this nation is largely upheld and shielded by the work of the DHS.
Calling for the shutdown of DHS is, by all means, obscene, but House Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez isn’t against it. As a matter of fact, when the congresswoman gave an interview with the New Yorker Radio, she openly expressed her support for abolishing DHS, as documented by Fox News. Although this interview took place on Friday, it’s just now making the rounds in the press and Americans aren’t hesitating to weigh in.
Why Does AOC Want to Get Rid of the DHS?
In logic which could only be used by Ocasio-Cortez, she believes that ending DHS will somehow undo the “mistakes” of the Bush administration. During her interview, the congresswoman also claimed that the development of the DHS was a mistake to begin with. It’s hard to imagine that someone who has been elected to Congress could be this naive and ridiculous, but this is what progressives voted for.
Ocasio-Cortez’s own words on the matter read as follows:
“I think [we should get rid of the Department of Homeland Security.] I think we need to undo a lot of the egregious, umm, a lot of the egregious mistakes that the Bush administration did. I feel like we are, at a very, it’s a very qualified and supported position, at least in terms of evidence, and in terms of being able to make the argument that we never should of created DHS in the early 2000s.”
The Pitfalls of Electing Idiots into Congress
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other House Democrats are a prime example of why electing idiots into office never ends well. What kind of person suggests ending the Department of Homeland Security? Ocasio-Cortez has made some pretty obscene statements in the past, but calling for the end of DHS truly takes the cake. If Ocasio-Cortez got her way, DHS and ICE would be gone tomorrow and illegal immigrants would be able to pour in at will.
The only thing scarier than AOC’s proposals are the fact that there will be certain Americans who blindly support her and all the insane things which come out of her mouth.
