Democrats passed the American Rescue Plan this month with not a single vote from a GOP lawmaker. This is only possible because the Democrat Party controls the House and Senate, despite the slimness of both majorities.
The actions of the Biden administration and Democrats in Congress shall undoubtedly impact the midterm elections next year. While Democrats will market their policies as in keeping with the best interests of the American people, the GOP will present an alternative and work to get their voters to the polls.
Since the passing of the American Rescue Plan, Republicans have strongly condemned the reality that fewer than 10% of this bill goes towards coronavirus relief. According to Washington Examiner, the American Rescue Plan is expected to play a significant role in the 2022 midterms.
Vastly Different Talking Points for the 2022 Elections
Regarding next year’s midterm races, Republicans seek to regain the congressional majorities; Democrats, on the other hand, are striving to expand the number of seats they hold in the Senate and House.
Democrat lawmakers are already lauding the passing of the American Rescue Plan as in the best interests of Americans, coronavirus recovery, vaccination plans, etc. The left has also claimed that were the GOP in control of Congress, no Americans would have coronavirus stimulus checks.

Republican legislators, by contrast, have a very different outlook on the American Rescue Plan. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has pointed out that over half of the Democrats’ $1.9 trillion legislation will remain unspent until after next year. This also comes on top of a lack of capital for the reopening of schools and many other problems.
At the end of the day, Republicans will argue next year that the waste of the $1.9 trillion package is greater than the benefits Democrats claim comes from the package; meanwhile, Democrats will assert the American Rescue Plan saved the nation and that more relief will come if the GOP doesn’t regain congressional power.
Between Now and November 2022
The American Rescue Plan will undoubtedly be a factor in next year’s midterm races; however, there is much more to come between this point and the 2022 congressional elections.
The American Rescue Plan is now the law of the land.
It delivers the big, bold COVID relief Americans need.

Since the congressional approval of the $1.9 trillion spending bill, Democrat lawmakers are already preparing to pass more expensive packages for infrastructure, anti-police reform, etc. Like the American Rescue Plan, Republicans will be hard-pressed to stop Democrats’ bills from passing through Congress, so long as the GOP has neither majority.
