Fidel Castro’s grandson just posted a cringeworthy dance video celebrating Nicolás Maduro’s “No War, Yes Peace” remix while ordinary Cubans suffer through blackouts and food shortages.
Revolutionary Legacy Becomes Social Media Mockery
Sandro Castro published a video dancing to Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro’s “No War, Yes Peace” remix, continuing his pattern of tone-deaf social media content. The 33-year-old grandson of Fidel Castro has built an Instagram following of 127,000 by flaunting luxury items and mocking Cuba’s hardships.
His latest stunt associates him with Maduro during Venezuela’s political instability, demonstrating how far the Castro family has drifted from revolutionary principles.
Dissident historian Manuel Cuesta Morua identifies Sandro as embodying “the distance of the grandchildren’s generation from the original revolutionary project.” Unlike other Castro family members who maintained discretion about their privilege, Sandro displays wealth “indiscreetly” while Cubans endure daily struggles with necessities.

Elite Privilege During National Crisis
Cuba faces its worst economic conditions since the 1990s “special period,” with frequent power outages, medicine shortages, high inflation, and fuel scarcity driving continued emigration. Sandro was born during that original crisis in 1992, yet his social media showcases Cristal, luxury cars, and an expensive lifestyle.
His 2021 Mercedes-Benz video sparked outrage when he stated: “We are simple people, but now and then we have to take out these little toys we have at home.”
The contrast was even starker during his 2024 birthday celebration at his Havana bar, complete with massive neon lights and table dancing, occurring as the country suffered through a massive blackout. Cuban commentator Juan Pablo Peña describes the Castro family as “a class that has used the justification of social justice only to establish its own dynastic privilege.”

Government Loyalists Demand Action
Government supporters have publicly criticized Sandro’s behavior as threatening national security and revolutionary ideals. Historian Ernesto Limia argues Sandro “does not respect the memory” of Fidel Castro, while online influencer “El Necio” claims he “goes against the security of this country.”
Despite these demands for censorship, Sandro continues posting controversial content without facing the detention that typically confronts Cuban activists and critics.
